In just three months in Poznan, Poland, Short Waves Festival will take place for the eleventh time. Second half of March in the capital of Great Poland will be filled with short films from all over the world. In ten year’s history of creating Short Waves Festival, the event became recognizable brand among Polish and European audiences. Each year six days of festival includes over 60 events, 300 films and gathers approximately 7K short film lovers.

COMPETITIONS

The programme consists of competition screenings divided into four categories: International Competition, Polish Competition, Dances with Camera – unique dance film competition and Urban View dedicated to urban life and design. Total amount of prizes adds up to 52 000 PLN (approx. 12 000 EURO). International jury and audience will award best films in each category. Official festival selection will be announced in early January 2019.

OUTSIDE THE BOX: Focus on South – East Asia

The motto relates mainly to next year’s focus programme – we will take a closer look at South-East Asian cinematography. Specially prepared screenings for SWF will show aesthetics and imagination of filmmakers from Thailand, Malesia, Philipines and Indonesia. Focus will be programmed by Bangkok based film curator John Badalu, who also is a program consultant at Berlinale International Film Festival.
We will think OUTISDE THE BOX in terms of searching for broader perspective and new angle on future of the cinema, new ideas for festival programming and promotion of film among different audiences. These will be the topics of discussion panels and industry and educational program of next year’s Short Waves Festival.
