Industry and education at Short Waves Festival!

Short Waves Festival is not just film screenings. Check out what have we prepared in our industry and education programme.

This year’s festival motto OUTSIDE THE BOX has become a pretext for a meeting of aspiring young photographers and filmmakers, who have made an attempt to build an unconventional film space in Cultural Incubator Pireus. All that has taken place as a part of educational project, during which the attendees have experienced the “behind the scenes” of film festival creation – from a mere idea to organization of audiovisual events. A final event concept was based on individual interpretations of the subject by a group of youth, during 12 workshop meetings that took place from December to March 2019.

Final event & exhibition opening: 24th of March 2019, 4 p.m. at Cultural Incubator Pireus

ON WAVES: festival studio
For the very first time at Short Waves Festival, we are hosting a series of conversations in a specially set up studio in CK Zamek. Film art outside the box
Pawilon, 22.03.2019, 4:30 p.m., free entry
How are the works of art curator and film programmer intertwined? How to construct a film program that will reach a diverse audience? What is the role of film festivals in this context? A discussion dedicated to new curatorial practices in the field of film and visual art.

Short and to the point: Film criticism
Concordia Taste, 23.03.2019, 1:30 p.m., free entry
Reviewing short films is not the easiest of tasks – these films are not present in a classic distribution circuit and most of the time reach a small audience. What is the potential of streaming platforms in this context and what are the new forms of participation in audiovisual culture? Is it worth it to write about short cinema? What is the role of film critics in the field of promotion of short cinematography? We will respond to these and many other questions during the discussion with invited expert guests.

There is also planned an Film Brunch for our industry guests (invitations required).

See you at the festival!
