SWF 2022 Selection Committees Announcement

We announce the line-up of the selection committee working on next year’s edition of the Short Waves Festival, which will take place 14-19.06.2022 in Poznań and online.

Adam Kruk

Polish Competition Curator

Film critic, film expert, culture animator. He has published, among others, in Dwutygodnik, Kino, Film, Screen, Film Quarterly, and Filmweb. For his critical activity, he received the Krzysztof Mętrak Award (2012) and a nomination for the Polish Film Institute Award (2018). He lectures at the University of Wrocław, Lower Silesian School of Higher Education, Film Academy, Filmoteka Szkolna and within the framework of the New Horizons of Film Education. Reporter from the most important film festivals in the world, collaborator of numerous Polish film events. Curator of the BRAVE Cinema review, the Polish Cinema for Beginners project (Polish Film Institute Award in the film education category 2016) and the Discussion Film Club “Centrum” in Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe. Member of the International Federation of Film Critics FIPRESCI, the Film Writing Circle of the Polish Filmmakers Association, the Wrocław Film Foundation and the Dante Alighieri Association.

Stefan Kruse Jørgensen

Urban View Competition Curator

Born in Denmark in 1987, Stefan Kruse Jørgensen is a filmmaker and visual artist with a background in Graphic Design. In July 2017 he received a Master Degree in Visual Culture & Identity from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Design (KADK). His work reflects an ongoing research into technical image production and the collective consciousness it shapes. Stefan’s latest film A Lack of Clarity (2020) won The International Competition at SHORT WAVES FILM FESTIVAL and The Golden Horseman Short Fiction Film Award at FILMFEST DRESDEN. Stefan is currently pursuing a postgraduate at Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln.

Wojciech Ulman

Polish Experimental Film Competition / Dances with Camera Competition Curator

Visual artist, photographer, filmmaker, video performer. Art exhibition and film curator. Graduate of Photography and Intermedia at University of the Arts Poznan. His work revolves around existential topics, he points out the absurdities of daily life, creates grotesque connections, experiments with film and sound editing. The creative process remains very important to him and he reveals it as a backdrop of the end results of his art. Creator of YouTube channel “KONTAKT” and the host of the audition under the same name at Radio Kapitał.

Michał Matuszewski

Polish Experimental Film Competition Curator / Selection consultation

Film curator, exhibitor, researcher and author working at Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, a leading art institution in Poland where he is in charge of the film programme and runs an art-house cinema with various programmes – from experimental films to midnight movies. He curated a number of film events and retrospectives. He was a member of international juries (Venice, Berlin, Cannes) and published several articles on Virtual Reality and animals in film. His most recent projects relate to VR and cinema and non-human perspective in film.

dr Regina Lissowska-Postaremczak

Dances with Camera Competition Curator

Dance critic, choreographer, researcher, and dance film programmer. She holds a MA degree in Choreography and Dance Theory from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, and MA in Theatre Studies from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, where she also did her PhD, focusing on choreographic strategies and cognitive aspects of dance. She teaches Dance in Physical Culture at the University of Physical Education in Poznań, and Dance at Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.

Since 2009 she published critic and theoretical articles related to dance art on “TEATR” magazine, CriticalDance, „Studia Choreologica”, „Kultura Współczesna”, „VideoDance Studies” and many other monographs dedicated to theatre and dance. She also collaborates with the portal taniecPOLSKA.pl as a critic.

Since 2014 she is a curator of Dances with Camera, an international competition and dance film program at Short Waves Festival. Since 2018 she also curates Kino Tańca (Dance Cinema) – monthly dance film presentations in collaboration with Mazovia Cultural Institute and PERFORM Artistic Foundation in Warsaw. As a guest programmer, lecturer or jury member she collaborates internationally with multiple institutions and festivals devoted to presentation of dance and dance films. She also supported many dance film productions as a consultant for dramaturgy, international sales and distribution. Since 2020 she runs the taniecmovie.pl website dedicated to dance art in audiovisual media.

Emilia Mazik

International Competition / Urban View Competition Curator

A graduate of Culture Management and Philosophy at Jagiellonian University in Cracow, who has been cooperating with Ad Arte Foundation since 2014. For years she has programmed the festival and coordinated its industry activities and in 2019 she became the festival director. Cofounder of a close network of collaboration of European festivals – European Short Film Network and a part of the editorial team of Talking Shorts – online magazine about short film form. A jury member of +20 film festivals in Poland and abroad. www.emiliamazik.pl/en

Daria Grabarek

International Competition Curator

Daria Grabarek is a graduate of film studies and media culture at the University of Poznań. In her master’s thesis, she described the condition of Polish cinema for young viewers over the past fifty years. She joined the Short Waves festival team in 2019, and since 2020 she actively works in the program department as a coordinator of the non-competition section and as a programmer. She also actively participates in other film festivals in Poland and abroad. Currently, she is interested in screenwriting.

Aleksandra Ławska

International Competition / Polish Competition / Urban View Competition / Dances with Camera Competition / Polish Experimental Film Competition Curator

Aleksandra Ławska studied Danish Philology and Cultural Studies at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. Since 2018 she is strongly engaged in working on national and international interdisciplinary projects including educational activities at the Foundation of Cultural Education Ad Arte in Poznan, Poland. Since 2019 she’s a Head of Programming at the Short Waves Festival, international short film festival held in Poznań, and since 2020 she cooperates with Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) in Montreal as a preselection committee member of short film competitions.

Joanna Baranowska

International Competition Curator

Joanna Baranowska, born in 1981, is creative producer, script consultant in the field of anti-discrimination, LGBT and psychology, as well as editor of human science articles. She graduated from the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw in the Dance Theory department, and studied Slavic studies, philosophy and physical therapy. Creator and coordinator of many multidisciplinary international artistic projects; she collaborated, among others, with Goethe-Institut and Malta Festival Poznań. She gathered experience on film sets working as continuity clerk, director’s assistant and casting director.

Currently she studies psychology and frequently watches Italian cinema, “Twin Peaks” and “Nights and Days”. She’s interested in any type of creators and revolutions.
