[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Barely a week before the beginning of 12th Short Waves Festival edition in March, the organizers were forced to postpone the event to a later date due to the pandemic outbreak. The comfort and safety of our attendees were our priority while planning the festival scheduled for new dates in August in terms of the event adjustment to current restrictions and epidemiological conditions.
Hence, following the lead of the world’s biggest festivals such as Toronto Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival, 12. Short Waves Festival will be presented in a hybrid form. No worries though, the program is still going to be abundant in new releases from the world of short film. In the spirit of this year’s festival motto #fixingthefuture, that is currently even more relevant than before, the program will contain over 50 festival events, 200 films, 15 locations, including a wandering festival club with 5 independent venues that are going to serve as spaces for conversation after days full of screenings.
All events in the program will be taking place both in offline and online mode. In collaboration with Filmchief platform, we will be presenting the film program online in real time. We will be holding the event in Poznań simultaneously – with respect to social distancing rules. The entire industry discussion panel program is going to be moved online. The organizers are also expecting a few dozen guests from Poland and abroad.
The individuals who have already purchased festival passes for the March edition and have supported the festival in difficult times by not returning their accreditation will be able to attend both online and offline screenings. The ones who have decided to attend the festival only now, will be able to choose between a festival pass that grants access to online program or single tickets to regular screenings at our partner venues. As usual, a large number of events will be free!
As always, the program includes a competition section with 5 categories containing entries from all over the world. Outside of competition categories, we will be presenting our classic subject-focused short film sets, including Kinky Shorts, Horror Shorts, and Comedy Shorts, as well as special screenings such as Scottish short films from Glasgow Short Film Festival and VR screenings. The festival will also be hosting Hotel Europa/space of exchange, the most recent project created by Ad Arte Foundation – a comfortable and safe space for exchange of ideas relating to the past, the present and the future of the Old Continent, while the geographic Fokus will be centered around Lebanon. We will also be hosting our cult favorite secret cinematic house parties which, this time for a change, will be taking place in Poznanians’ private gardens, as our flagship event will be rebranded as Random Garden Cinema, naturally while keeping social distancing rules and safety of our attendees in mind.
Since its humble beginnings, Short Waves Festival has aimed to not only share the passion for short cinema, but also to create a platform for meetings, initiate dialogue, broaden horizons, and facilitate exchange of thoughts and experiences. A hybrid edition of the festival is also a good solution for members of our audience with health conditions and impairments, as well as individuals who intend to limit travel not only due to the pandemic, but also for environmental reasons. Hence, we hope that all short film lovers will be able to come together in a form of an extraordinary cinematic community for the 12th time, above divisions, and on an entirely different level – online.
During the entire festival we will be implementing special safety rules in compliance with guidelines provided by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, established for cultural and entertainment event organizers during the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in Poland (LINK).
